Find the Lowest Airfare Rates on Your Next Domestic or International Flight

You don’t have to go to a discount travel site to find the lowest airfares. Let your mouse do all of the work for you by following these simple travel planning tips.

Are you flexible enough? This refers to date, location and time. If you have the ability to travel on the same date but at a different time, you may be able to purchase a less expensive seat on a plane that is partially filled. The same can be said about traveling on a day that is not as

 busy as other days. Also, location flexibility is the key. If traveling to a major city and there are multiple airports nearby, check the airfare rates at the other airports. Factor in the cost of a taxi ride or rent your car from that location and you could save a significant amount over your first choice in airport location.

When viewing the screen, don’t let it scare you. In fact, you need to scroll to find the savings. When searching online, scroll down to the bottom of the list to view the lowest priced airfares. This is because most sites list flight fare information in the order of fastest travel time to slowest. Yes, you may have to make a connection or two until you reach your destination but fares can be hundreds of dollars less at the bottom of the list than at the top. Also, try to compare prices as far in advance as possible, as some airlines offer discounted flights 21 days out, and also at the 3 day towards the flight’s departure mark.

Avoid pricey in-flight meals by planning ahead. While you may not be able to bring liquids (or at least a large quantity) aboard, purchase dried snacks ahead of time. Due to flight delays, layovers or other events, having a snack or two in your carry-on will save on in-flight food charges.
